ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the clinical effect and evaluation of an efficient and rapid drug-delivery device of anus and intestine surgery. Methods:The clinical data of a total of 110 patients with anorectal disease were analyzed and all of them were divided into observation group (55 cases) and control group (55 cases) according to whether adopted drug-delivery device. The observation group adopted drug-delivery device and control group didn't adopted this device. The clinical effect and cross infection rate of the two groups were observed and compared. The pain feel of patients were assessed as visual analogue scale and the quality of life (QOL) of patients were assessed as simple formula (SF-36) of living quality of Boston institute for health of USA.Results:The times for edema regression and wound healing, the extinction times of transudation and pain of the surface of wound in the observation group were■of follow-up for all of patients indicated the total score of QOL of observation group (83.54±14.49 points) was significantly higher than that (65.40±13.31 points) of control group (t=6.8375, P<0.05) .Conclusion:The application of an efficient and rapid drug-delivery device of anus and intestine surgery can contribute to accelerate wound healing of patients, and alleviate pain and reduce the occurrence of cross-infection, and improve the patients'QOL.Therefore, it has higher value in popularization and application.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To study the clinicopathological characteristics, treatments and prognosis of primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC).Methods Twenty cases of LELC were collected and the clinicopathological characteristics, immunohistochemical expression, survival data and clinical treatments were analyzed, with review of the literatures.Resuits Histopathologically,it was characterized by the syncytial pattern of growing with large vesicular nuclei, conspicuous nucleoli, and a marked lymphocytic infiltrate in the stroma that was similar to undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The immunohistochemical staining of CKpan showed positive expression in all cases (100%).Also the positive expression of in situ hybridization of Epstein-Bar virus-encoded RNA (EBER) were in all cases (100%) while the positive cases of CK5/6,p63 and p40 were 19,18,and 16 respectively. But gene mutations such as EGFR,K-RAS were negative. All the LELC patients in this cohort were survived until the deadline of follow-up.Comprehensive treatments were done such as surgical resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Conclusion Primary pulmonary LELC is a rare disease that histomorphological analysis and immunohistochemistry are the main methods of diagnosis for it.It must be excluded the metastasis carcinoma from other locations. While both EGFR mutation and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)mutation could be commonly detected in non-small cell lung cancer, but seldom in LELC of lung. The high expression of PD1/PD-L1 may provide a rationale for immunotherapy in this subtype of lung cancer.Currently, experimental therapy is still taken in the pulmonary LELC.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDMeasurement of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein in the serum of metastatic breast cancer patients has previously been reported, but there are no consistent data to support the clinical utility of serum HER2 extracellular domain for patients with early stage breast cancer. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between serum extracellular domain levels and tissue HER2 expression, and analyzed their relationship with clinico-pathological parameters in patients with early stage disease.

METHODSA prospective study was conducted on 232 breast cancer patients with stage I-III prior to treatment. Preoperative serum samples were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Tissue HER2 status was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization assays.

RESULTSThe median serum extracellular domain concentration was 6.8 ng/ml. The best diagnostic cut-off value was 7.4 ng/ml, with 62.9% sensitivity and 85.3% specificity. High serum extracellular domain levels were reported in 89 patients (38.3%), and HER2-positive expression was observed in 77 patients (33.2%). Multivariate analysis showed that elevated serum extracellular domain correlated with postmenopausal status (P < 0.001), high histological grade (P < 0.001), negativity of both estrogen (P = 0.012) and progesterone receptors (P < 0.001), and high levels of carcinoembryonic antigen 153 (P = 0.048).

CONCLUSIONSWe recommend that 7.4 ng/ml should be used as the cut-off value when evaluating serum extracellular domain levels in early stage of breast cancer. Patients with high serum extracellular domain levels have a certain clinico-pathological characteristics, may provide a basis for clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo determine how patients with infiltrating lobular carcinoma (ILC) differ from patients with the more common infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC), and observe the different expression patterns of E-cadherin and p120-catenin proteins in both ILCs and IDCs.

METHODSThe patients with ILC admitted to our hospital from Jan 1999 to Dec 2006 and patients with IDC from Jan 2000 to Dec 2000 were included in this study. All their pathological slides were reviewed, and their clinical data and treatment variables were analyzed retrospectively. Then the expression patterns of E-cadherin and p120-catenin proteins in both ILCs and IDCs were detected by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarray.

RESULTSThe 5-year overall survival was 81.7% for ILCs and 79.1% for IDCs (P = 0.055). The 5-year disease-free survival was 61.8% for ILCs and 83.7% for IDCs (P < 0.001). Cytoplasmic localization of p120-catenin and loss of E-cadherin expression were more common in ILCs than in IDCs. The complete losses of E-cadherin in ILCs and IDCs were 55.6% (20/36) and 20.4% (45/221, P < 0.001), respectively. The p120-catenin showed a diffuse cytoplasmic localization in 66.7% (24/36) of ILCs and 16.3% (36/221) of IDCs (P < 0.001). Interestingly, the cytoplasmic localization of p120-catenin was clearly associated with the absence of E-cadherin expression in ILCs (P = 0.002), cytoplasmic localization of p120-catenin and absence of E-cadherin expression were observed 55.6% (20/36) in ILCs compared with 4.1% (9/221) in IDCs (P < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONILC has several specific biological and prognostic characteristics which are different in IDC. Different expression patterns of E-cadherin and p120-catenin proteins can be helpful to recognize ILC from IDC.

ABSTRACT

Objective In this study we conducted a cross-sectional study and reported on the distribution of two common genetic polymorphisms of the PON1 gene and two common genetic polymorphisms of the GST gene as well as the association between those polymorphisms and other predictors in a population of floriculture workers from Kunming city. Methods 136 pesticide-exposed farmers were recruited. PON1 and GST T1, M1 genotype were determined by means of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Results (1)Compared with exposure group, the GLB in control group was higher(β=-0.16,t=-2.30, P=0.02), but the A/G in control group was lower (β=0.14,t=2.09,P=0.04); (2) Compared with the persons who carried QQ genotype, the accumulative symptom scores were lower in the persons who carried RR genotype(t=-2.78, P=0.006); (3) Compared with GST T1 carriers, non-carriers' GLB (β=-0.20, t=-3.01, P=0.00)and IgG(β=-0.20,t=-3.01, P=0.00)were higher, but the A/G was lower; (4) The abnormities of cardiograms among people who had been exposed to pesticides were higher compared to people who did not expose to any pesticides (β=1.147, P=0.042). Conclusion PON1-192 and GST T1 gene were associated with the farmers health condition after pesticides exposure.
